Day-to-night renders one view by day, at golden hour and at night

Start a project

One view, three light settings, and a short film in which day turns to night. It is made from a render that is already finished, so nothing is modelled twice.

Service

A day-to-night render is one view of a room or a building shown at different times of day. We take a finished render and deliver it by day, at golden hour and at night, from the same camera, with nothing else changed.

This is the specialist form of our AI render enhancement service. It suits a developer who wants the brochure to show the living room in the morning and in the evening, an architect who wants to show how the facade lighting works after dark, and an interior designer whose client asks what the room looks like with the lamps on. It is the right choice when the view is approved and only the light should change.

What you get

  • 01

    Day

Clear daylight through the windows. Materials are seen at their true colour. This is usually the view you already have.

  • 02

    Golden hour

Low, warm sun shortly before sunset, with long shadows. A common choice for brochure covers and hoardings.

  • 03

    Night

A dark sky outside, with ceiling lights, lamps and facade lights on. It shows the lighting design, which a daytime view cannot.

  • 04

    The day-to-night film

A short film from one fixed camera. The light moves from day to golden hour to night while everything in the frame stays still.

  • 05

The same frame in every image

Because the camera is identical, the three images can be placed side by side in a brochure or on a web page for direct comparison.

When a re-light is the right choice

Choose a re-light when the view is finished and correct, and you want it at another time of day. The usual cases are a living room for morning and evening, a bedroom at night, a lobby with its feature lighting on, and a 3D elevation night view to go with the daytime one.

It is also the right choice when the original 3D file is no longer available, or when the render came from someone else. We work from the finished image, so the 3D file is not required.

When you need a fresh render instead

A re-light changes the light and nothing else. It cannot show the room from a new camera angle, because the image only contains what the camera saw. It cannot change the design. If the sofa, the flooring or the facade material has changed since the render was made, the model has to be updated and the view rendered again.

For anything in this list, see 3D interior rendering or 3D exterior rendering. Once the new view is approved, it can be re-lit like any other.

  • A new camera angle or a wider view
  • A change to furniture, finishes or layout
  • A render with mistakes in the modelling
  • A view that was never rendered in the first place

How the light is set for each time of day

For the day view we place the sun on the correct side of the building, so tell us which way the windows face. For golden hour the sun is low and warm, and it comes from the east or the west as it would on site. For night we switch on the lights shown in your lighting plan: cove lights, pendants, lamps, facade lights and landscape lights.

Each image is then compared with the original. The furniture, the materials and the camera must match in all three. On The Chambéry in Abuja, the interior renders were re-lit for day, golden hour and night with every object, material and camera angle unchanged, and a day-to-night film was made from one fixed camera. Both are on the project page.

What decides the price

A day-to-night set is quoted per view. One view in three light settings is one set. The charge depends on the number of views, the size of the final images and how complex the scene is. A night view of a room with many light sources takes more work than a change from midday to evening sun. The film is quoted separately, by its length.

A set costs less than ordering the same view as three separate renders, because the room is not built or rendered again. The quote states the views, the light settings, the revision rounds and the delivery size.

How it runs

  1. 01

    Send the view

You send the finished render and say which light settings you want.

  2. 02

    Sun and lamps

You confirm which way the windows face and which lights are on at night.

  3. 03

    Three settings

We produce the day, golden hour and night versions, and check each one against the original.

  4. 04

    Side-by-side review

You compare the set and ask for adjustments to any of the three.

  5. 05

    Delivery

The final set, and the film if you ordered one, is delivered at the size in the quote.

Questions

How much does a day to night render cost?

It is quoted per view, with the light settings counted as one set. The number of views, the image size and the complexity of the lighting decide the charge. Send the views you want re-lit and we quote the set.

Can you change the lighting in a rendering without rendering it again?

Yes. One finished render can be shown in day, golden hour and night. We re-light the image with AI. The camera, the furniture and the materials stay the same.

Can you make a night view of my 3D elevation?

Yes. Send the daytime elevation render and the facade lighting plan. If there is no lighting plan, tell us where the lights are and what kind they are.

Is a day-to-night film the same as a walkthrough?

No. In a day-to-night film the camera does not move and the light changes. In a walkthrough film the camera moves through the building and the light usually stays the same.

Which light setting should I use for the brochure?

Use the one that suits what the image has to show. Day shows materials clearly. Golden hour is warm and suits living rooms and outdoor spaces. Night shows the lighting design. A brochure can use more than one.

Can you relight an interior render and an exterior render in the same order?

Yes. Both are handled the same way. For an exterior the sky changes with the time of day. For an interior the sky seen through the windows changes with it.

Can I order only a day and night render, without golden hour?

Yes. You choose the light settings. A day view and a night view of the same frame are quoted as a smaller set.
